Spring Gully Primary Health is a modern new medical practice operated by St Anthony Family Medical Practice opened in September 2016. We are focused on providing the highest quality of medical care to our patients.
Our GP’s each have a range of skills and interests outside the usual scope of GP practice. Many of our GPs have completed their training or extra studies in various specialties in the medical field. These include Women’s Health, Psychiatry, Paediatrics and Men’s Health.

Practice Principal / General Practitioner
Dr. Rosario Palaypayon studied medicine at the University of the City of Manila, in the Philippines. She moved to Australia in 2005 and worked for four years as a Hospital Medical Officer at Latrobe Regional Hospital in Traralgon, followed by rotations in Edenhope and Rochester.
Rosario came to Bendigo to complete her GP training and became a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2012. She enjoys working as a country doctor and her particular interest in Chronic Disease Management and Minor Surgical Procedures.
She is currently not taking on new patients.

Dr Adel Asaid graduated medicine in Cairo, Egypt at Ainshams University in 1982. He moved to Australia in 1988, and lived in Melbourne until 1991. He started work at the Bendigo Hospital and stayed there for over 12 years. Dr Asaid joined the Royal College of General Practitioners in 1998, and trained in Eaglehawk then Dimboola. It was there that his love with rural settings and country life began. This led Dr Asaid to establish his first rural clinic in Elmore in 1998. Two years later St Anthony Family Medical Practice Pty Ltd opened a clinic in Boort, followed by Rochester, Heathcote, Strathfieldsaye, Rushworth and Spring Gully.
Dr Asaid has a special interests in training new Doctors to maintain rural services, aged care, travel vaccinations and family medicine.

Dr Sara Careem obtained her Medical degree from Monash University and has worked in various departments at Bendigo Base Hospital, including the Emergency Department, Paediatrics, Psychiatry and Oncology. Sara has worked in both our Strathfieldsaye and Heathcote Primary Health practices seeing a wide variety of patients.
Sara enjoys applying the wide range of knowledge and skills she has gained through her experience to General Practice. Sara’s interests include primary care, aged care, paediatrics, and women's health.
She is currently not taking on new patients.

Dr Joe Swiss is a very experienced GP being a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. Dr Swiss is originally from Cairo, Egypt and worked at a major hospital in Cairo. He later moved to Australia in 2014 with his young family and joined St Anthony Family Medical Group. In 2019 Dr Swiss commenced working at Spring Gully Primary Health on Wednesdays.
Dr Swiss was very involved with the Bendigo Respiratory Clinic during the start of the pandemic. Dr Swiss has a special interest in family medicine, men’s & pain management and preventative health strategies.
He is currently taking on new patients.

Dr Keerthi obtained his first medical degree in Sri Lanka in 1998. Born and raised in rural Sri Lanka, Keerthi came to Australia in 2006. After completing a PhD at Flinders University in South Australia he moved to Bendigo in 2010 to work as a Lecturer in Human Biosciences at La Trobe University Bendigo. He completed Australian Medical Council (AMC) qualifications in 2013. Keerthi completed all his Australian medical training at Bendigo Base Hospital. He has also worked for a year at St John of God Hospital (Bendigo) ICU. Then after five years of hospital practice he joined the rural GP workforce in early 2018. Keerthi's interests include child and adolescent health, mental health, aged care and all the chronic medical conditions. Keerthi enjoys the rural lifestyle in Bendigo, and he lives in Bendigo with his family since 2010.

Dr Charith is caring and highly motivated doctor with a broad range of clinical skills and is dedicated to providing excellent patient-centred health care. Since graduating in 2010, he has worked in various health departments including Surgery, General medicine, Paediatrics, Anaesthesia and Emergency medicine in various locations in Sri Lanka prior to moving to Australia in 2017. Since then, he has been working as a rural doctor in Bendigo Health with multiple rotations in Castlemaine Health, Echuca Regional Health and Swan Hill District Hospital until moved into the GP pathway in 2022.
He enjoys all aspects of general practice with additional training in Mental health. Also have a special interest in Men’s health, chronic disease management and older people’s health.
He is currently accepting new patients.

Dr Maryam Aqrawi is a skilled General Practitioner with a strong background in rural and remote medicine and advanced training in skin cancer care. She earned her Bachelor of Medicine (MBChB) in Iraq and completed her Fellowship with the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM). She has also undertaken specialised training through HealthCert, earning a Professional Diploma of Dermoscopy and an Advanced Certificate in Skin Cancer Surgery.
Dr Aqrawi’s clinical interests include adult internal medicine, chronic disease management, skin cancer medicine, and women’s and children’s health. Her commitment to ongoing education and patient-centred care ensures a comprehensive and compassionate approach to general practice.
Dr Maryam is currently taking on new patients.
She consults at Spring Gully on Mondays and consults at Emu Creek on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Spring Gully Primary Health is excited to announce that Exercise Physiologists from Pro Active Health will soon be consulting from the Portable Container, located at the entrance of Spring Gully reception.
All DVA and GP Chronic Condition Management Plans (GPCCMP’s) are bulk-billed! Private consultations are $80 for 45 minutes; patients can claim these appointments if they are covered by their Private Health Insurance.

Spring Gully Primary Health is committed to continuing comprehensive, high quality health care delivered to you by our team of skilled and professional practice staff, nurses and General Practitioners in comfortable well-resourced environment. We offer a range of services including surgical procedures for skin lesions, IUDs, mental health consultations, travel medicine and total skin photography.
Our billings policies remain the same, including bulk billing for children 15 and under, people who hold a health care card or pension card. In addition, we bulk bill a variety of health assessments, chronic condition management plans, The After-hours service will be available to patients of SAFMP practices. Please check with your doctor whether you are eligible for any of these.

Fees can vary, based on the length of time taken for each consultation, the complexity and the determination of the individual doctor.

It is voluntary and free to register in MyMedicare.
When you register in MyMedicare, it will notify your general practice that you have chosen them as your regular care team. Additional funding will be available from the government to help them provide the care you need.
MyMedicare patients will have access to:

Longer Medicare Benefit Scheme (MBS) funded telehealth consultations with your GP
Triple bulk billing incentive for longer MBS telehealth consultations for children under 16, pensioners, and concession card holders, from 1 November 2023
More regular visits from your GP and better care planning for people living in a residential aged care home, from August 2024
Connections to more appropriate care in general practice for people who visit hospital frequently, from mid-2024.
If you choose not to register in MyMedicare, you’ll still be able to access the same quality of care from your healthcare providers.

Telehealth/Phone Consultation allows you to consult a healthcare provider by video/phone call. Our practice can provide telephone consultations if you do not require to physically see the doctor. To organise a telehealth consultation, please contact the clinic to arrange your appointment.
Telehealth Consultation:
- Make sure the practice has your correct number or email address.
- Check your phone/computer camera is working at least 10 minutes prior to the consultation.
- Write down a list of things you wish to discuss and have a pen handy to write down instructions.
- Have your medications in front of you and know which pharmacy you usually go to for scripts.
- Your doctor will SMS a link to your mobile phone once they are ready for you. If you do not have a smartphone, the link can be sent to your email address.
- Please stay by your phone and watch out for our message - be available for up to 45 mins post your appointment time.
- Click the link and follow the prompts, the link will take you to a safe encrypted network called Healthdirect. Your doctor will be waiting for you in the virtual waiting room.
- If you get disconnected, please wait for us to return the call.
- After your consult is completed, reception will contact you back for payment.
Phone Consultation:

To access a Medicare rebate for phone and video consults, you must have been seen face to face in the clinic during the past 12 months. If not, there will be a private out of pocket fee. If you are unsure if you are eligible, please contact your practice, as your doctor may need to see you in person.
Other Telehealth / Phone Consultations:
• Can be used for Work Cover and TAC consults.
• GP Management Plans (Care Plans) can only be done as a video consult (not phone), as per Medicare.
• An initial Mental Health Plan can only be done as a video consult (not phone), as per Medicare.
