Emu Creek Men's Shed, funded by Dr Adel Asaid, helping to build better mental health.

So Dr Asaid decided to transform a rarely used back shed at his medical practice in Strathfieldsaye into the Emu Creek Men's Shed. He also donated thousands of dollars' worth of equipment. "Getting out of the practice and doing something for the community, is very rewarding," Dr Asaid said.
"It is unusual for us as GPs — we usually see people inside.

"But to go outside to see them and talk about other issues, it is absolutely magnificent."

Born and raised in Egypt, Dr Asaid came to Australia to finish his studies in the 1980s.
Now the director of a group of medical practices in regional Victoria, he is passionate about changing the face of rural health.

"The best investment in health is to get men out of their environment and coming to talk, interact with others," he said.

The Emu Creek Men's shediscommunity-based, non-commercial organisations that are open to all men. Our purpose is to improve the health and wellbeing of their members by giving them a safe place to make friends, share meaningful activities, talk, and access health information and resources.
