  • The Cervical Screening Test is more effective than the Pap test at preventing cervical cancers, because it detects the human papillomavirus (known as HPV), whereas the Pap test looked for cell changes in the cervix.

HPV is a common infection that can cause cervical cell changes that may lead to cervical cancer.

The Cervical Screening Test is more effective than the Pap test at preventing cervical cancers, and is just as safe to be done every five years instead of every two.

The test is a simple procedure to check the health of your cervix. It feels the same as the Pap test, but tests for the human papillomavirus (known as HPV). For most women aged 25 to 74, your first Cervical Screening Test is due two years after your last Pap test. After that, you will only need to have the test every five years if your result is normal.

  • Gynaecologists are doctors who specialise in women's health, with a focus on the female reproductive system. They deal with a wide range of issues, including pregnancy and childbirth, menstruation and fertility issues, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), hormone disorders, and others.

  • The IUD is a small contraceptive device that is placed inside the uterus. The progestogen IUD is a small T-shape device with a cylinder containing progestogen around its stem.

The IUD affects sperm movement and survival in the uterus (womb) so that they cannot reach the egg to fertilise it. The IUD also changes the lining of the womb (endometrium) so that it is not suitable for pregnancy and prevents an egg – if it does become fertilised – from developing.

  • Colposcopy is a procedure to closely examine your cervix, vagina and vulva for signs of disease.

During colposcopy, your doctor uses a special instrument called a colposcope.

Your doctor may recommend colposcopy if your Cervical Screening Test result is abnormal.

  • Elmore Medical Practice is extremely proud to announce that we are the 1st General Practice in Australia to have the BodyMap technology.

Using this new technology, we take high definition photographs of suspicious skin conditions and lesions including moles, wounds, and other marks such as scars and ulcers.

Images are then viewed by your Doctor and utilised for treatment, and can be forwarded onto a specialist. When a patient comes for a review, the Doctor can then take a new image, and compare them side by side to view your progress in no uncertain terms.

Please phone the practice on 5432 6001 to make an appointment, and notify the receptionist that you will be having a BodyMap check.

Elmore Medical Practice would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the wonderful group of ladies in the Elmore Ladies Auxiliary for their contribution towards this technology, as well as their ongoing support.
